The Party of Love, set up by Dr. Hassan Nurani, a Psychologist from the Gaza Strip, with a platform of fighting the "culture of death and hatred in Palestinian society", has, perhaps unsurprisingly been the subject of death threats.
Maybe I've missed out on something but I think that this rather proves a point. When a political party or individual sets out a stall that is anti-death and anti-hatred and as a result receives threats and hatred back, there is very clearly something very wrong with the society in which the party exists as one would assume that death and hatred are bad things.
Whilst I'm encouraged that Dr. Nurani was able to find 5,000 signatures to support his candidacy, and that his platform was able to be published in print, that educated people (those who were able to read the article and write comments on it, should react as they did, says little for the readiness of the Palestinian people to exist in an honest-to-goodness, freedom of speech democracy. Clearly it's a little too early for a gay pride parade in Gaza City.

Or indeed in Jerusalem...
Did you notice the posters up in our Holy City that described the Disengagement Plan as a punishment for allowing the Gay Pride March in Jerusalem?
I suppose Arik hasn't been getting any death threats from his fellow jews either.
Just playing devil's advocate...
Clearly the Palestinians have a problem with their attitudes to death, but they don't have the monopoly on it either....
Yours water-muddyingly,
A turd in the punchbowl.
Recall several weeks back, Orthodox Rabbis, Imans and Priests all got together in Jerusalem to dennounce Gays.
It is sad that someone who would want to run on a platform of changing a society by love would be issued death threats. Especially in the Gaza in which violence is rampant and very close to anarchy.
It's sad that someone who ran on a platform of making peace between two nations who had been warring for 50 years would get shot by one of his own.
It's sad that someone who is trying to make peace was today shot at by his own people.
It's sad that people don't get that you don't make peace with your friends...
It's sad but that's our reality.
That was an interesting piece of news, thanks for posting on it!
