Stupid games

Pretty disgusting article in The Times today - PM Blair is apparently being urged to dismiss Holocaust Day because it's offensive to Muslims. It's also of course fairly offensive to skinheads, neo-Nazis and various other extreme haters of the West (Guardian Readers?) Apparently the idea is to replace it with an event which (let me quote so I get this right) "would recognise the mass murder of Muslims in Palestine, Chechnya and Bosnia as well as people of other faiths." Excuse me? Mass murder of Muslims in Palestine? In Iraq maybe - Syria fair enough but in Palestine - are we referrring to the "massacre of Jenin"?

How appropriate that such an article should appear on the anniversary of one of the largest terror acts in modern history. Presumably the memorial for 9/11 would also be offensive to Muslims as it brings up memories that it was a group of Muslims who decided to kill 3000 people by flying planes into civilian targets and we wouldn't want to offend their sensibilities would we?

Even the first line of the article would be hilarious were it not so sad - "
Advisers appointed by Tony Blair after the London bombings are proposing to scrap the Jewish Holocaust Memorial Day because it is regarded as offensive to Muslims." How stupid of me - here I was thinking the Muslim terrorists who perpertrated yet another act of terror opposed our way of life and our freedoms and wanted to impose a world run by Islamic law on us when in actual fact they're really just upset by Holocaust Day. So let's appease the bombers shall we? How about a specal Martyrs day? Fortunately the PM appears to have seen sense, kicking out fanatics rather than appeasing them - having a piece of paper in your hand doesn't work.

The Holocaust was a unique event and must be memorialised, taught about and never be allowed to happen again. To remember horrific events is imperative but there has never been anything on the scale of the Holocaust and please G-d there never will be again.

Ibrahim Hewitt, chairman of the charity Interpal, said: “There are 500 Palestinian towns and villages that have been wiped out over the years. That’s pretty genocidal to me.” Just as the enemies of truth and freedom have sought to devalue the words "Nazi" and "Holocaust" so too, this moron is twisting the word genocide. The figures, I'll dispute as a massive exaggeration - but the destroying of a building is not genocidal or even an act of genocide unless you are going to argue that buildings are a race of people. The context of a building being destroyed must also be taking into consideration - when the British bombed Dresden or the Americans nuked Hiroshima were those acts of genocide?

So do us a favour as I know you will do Mr Blair - ignore the morons - you have clearly recognised the game that they are playing and get back to enjoying the cricket.

Lovely objective commentary from the chair of the charity Interpal- that would be the UK-based Palestinian org which funnels Hamas funds from all over Europe.
